Diving & Myanmar (aka Burma)

Tara & I had been hanging around Bangkok, waiting for her friend to get into town. She finally arrived, and we headed straight for the beach! We had signed up for diving classes & it was awesome! There's something about being underwater & being able to breathe that's absolutely amazing...not to mention all of the beautiful fish & coral! The class was 4 days & I am now a certified diver! I just wish we could have spent a bit more time on the island (Koh Tao) because it was beautiful! But Chad was flying into Bangkok & I had to go meet him.

Chad got in safely, and the next day we flew to Myanmar (or Burma as we call it in the States). I had booked everything with a tour company...so I didn't have to worry about a thing. We flew into Yangon early in the morning and our guide picked us up, took us to our hotel, then took us to get our money changed in the black market...a little scary, but we got a much better rate (240 to the dollar vs 1000 to the dollar). We spent the rest of the day visiting temples. Yangon was HOT!!! Much hotter than Thailand & we had to take our shoes off in the temples...so we're walking around on burning hot tiles all day...not the funnest thing to do, but the temples were amazing!

The next morning, we flew to Mandalay & I'll post more about that later. I'm in Laos right now & we're going to live in tree-houses for a few days so Internet access will be limited.

Bob and Wendy pose a good question. You have so much travel expertise now. You'll have to come diving in ...well I don't remember where Shawn was talking about it, but somewhere close to where we'll be soon.
